Vintage buses prove just the ticket

BUS passengers were taken on a ride down memory lane on a fleet of buses from a bygone age.

Stagecoach kicked off its Dragon's Challenge fundraising effort last night by bringing the vintage vehicles to the city and running them on routes around Pennsylvania, Crossmead, Barley Mount, the Quay, Topsham and Broadclyst.

The Twilight Running tours started at 4.30pm and ran for five hours, departing from Exeter Bus Station.

The event was organised by Daniel Shears, engineering manager at Stagecoach's Barnstaple depot.

The buses, which date from 1938 to 1965, have been restored by enthusiasts from around the county.

Passengers were not charged but could make a donation to the NSPCC.

The Dragon's Challenge, fronted by West Country businesswoman Deborah Meaden, sees companies compete to raise at least £5,000 over six months for the NSPCC.

Employers in the Echo's area interested in taking part can call 01626 836102.
